Richard Barker, Adviser and Investment Committee Member, Iona Capital

Richard is an Adviser and Investment Committee Member at Iona Capital, a leading investor into the UK bio-energy sector with over £200m FUM. Richard was previously CEO of Biogen, the largest UK food waste AD builder and operator. He has also founded businesses in the aluminium recycling and chemical process technology sectors, following his early career in strategic consulting and investment banking. Richard is passionate about addressing the threat of climate change and is a member of Al Gore’s Climate Reality Leadership Corps.”

Tony Gale, Managing Director, Cleantech Consultants Ltd

Tony Gale is Managing Director Tony Gale Cleantech Consultants Ltd a company providing Strategic business and market development services to SME’s and investors with a speciality for innovative solutions in the Energy and built environment infrastructure. His training and experience enables him to cross technical boundaries to present synergistic and innovative solutions to the challenges of climate change and energy usage. Tony spent 17 years with GE as General Manager of GE’s Olympic Sponsorship programme and Director of Commercial Operations for Enterprise Infrastructure projects and is presently advising companies in Energy Efficiency solutions and Renewable generation. He was a Senior Panellist and advisor for the RBS Innovation Gateway a member of the GLA low carbon vehicle steering committee and a panellist for Cleantech Innovate 2017


Robert Hokin, Greenbackers Investment Capital

Robert is Chief Executive and Managing Partner at Greenbackers, a cleantech specialist fund and fund brokers. Considered a leading figure in the sector, he has over 25 years in technology development, commercialisation and finance. Previously, Robert was Chief Executive at ecoConnect, a UK-wide business network, founded the annual Cleantech Innovate Showcase, has held senior management positions at ABB, Worldcom, GEC-Marconi and McAfee, is a member of UKBAA and the Environmental Industries Commission.

Sarika Jain

Dr Sarika Jain, Programme Director, Cleantech Innovate

Sarika Jain is the Programme Director at We are Orchard with a specialisation in economic, social and environmental feasibility of clean energy technologies. As a Research and Policy Manager for the World Biogas Association and Analyst for ADBA, Dr Jain focuses on the growth potential and application of Anaerobic Digestion and Biogas technologies in the emerging, frontier and developed markets. With a diverse breadth of experience in environmental research and consultancy, Sarika has lived and worked in India, USA, the UK and Singapore.

Ben Lynch, Managing Partner, Cleantech Capital Advisors Ltd

Ben Lynch is the Founder and Managing Partner of Cleantech Capital Advisors Limited (CCA), a firm he established in 2012. CCA is a sector-focused boutique corporate finance advisory firm, providing financial and strategic advisory services for investors and companies in the cleantech & resource efficiency sector. Ben has 25 years of experience in technology-oriented industries globally and has worked in the financial services sector since 1997. Though European, Ben is a committed internationalist, having also lived and worked in North America and Asia, regions to which he retains strong links. During his time at Deutsche Bank and Commerzbank Ben was responsible for the firm’s Cleantech Practices, completing numerous landmark transactions. Ben is Irish, and speaks French fluently and German competently. He gained a First from Trinity College Dublin in Electronic Engineering (1988, thesis on photovoltaics) and an MBA (1995, with Distinction) from INSEAD.

Charlotte Morton

Charlotte Morton, Chief Executive, We Are Orchard Ltd

A practising lawyer for 10 years, Charlotte Morton studied for her MBA at London Business School before setting up a car club business. Asked to establish the business side of ADBA in 2009, she saw the potential of an industry that can deliver huge potential and value to the UK. Given the even bigger global potential, which must be achieved if the Paris Climate Change targets and UN Sustainable Development Goals are to be met, Charlotte played a pivotal role in establishing the World Biogas Association in 2016 to promote and increase the rate of uptake of biogas globally. Charlotte is also on the board of Green Gas Trading Ltd, which runs the Biomethane Certification Scheme.

Robin Palmer

Robin Palmer​, Deerfield Group Ltd

With over 25 years’ experience in Industrial international senior management, and 15 years in Corporate Finance (investment banking), Robin runs the strategy consultancy Deerfield Group and has several Non-Executive Chairman/Director roles, focussing on the Cleantech, Energy and Manufacturing/Technology sectors. In GE’s Corporate International Business Development team, he worked with the major GE business units before heading up Strategy & Business Development for (what became) GE Energy Management. At Plessey plc (telecommunications and aerospace & defence products/systems), Robin was Director of Marketing (International). Robin began his engineering career at Mather+Platt, a leading UK engineering company in pumps, electric motors, textile machinery, food machinery and fire protection.  He built up a new business in Anti-Pollution Systems (water and air treatment) before moving into fire protection when Mather+Platt was acquired by Wormald (now Tyco).  Robin has a MA in Engineering from Cambridge, MBA from Cranfield, MIoD and the FT NED Diploma

Michael Priestnall​, Innovation Lead for Energy Catalyst, Innovate UK

I joined Innovate UK in 2014 as Lead Technologist for the Energy Catalyst – a programme focused on commercialising UK innovations to address the trilemma of affordable, secure and low-carbon energy​. I am a chartered chemist and materials scientist with a career background in industrial & entrepreneurial energy R&D and business & technology consultancy.​


Thomas Prock, Chartered (UK), German and European Patent Attorney, Marks & Clerk

Thomas advises clients in the high tech field, in particular, in the electronics sector on internet related subject matter and computer-implemented inventions. He is active in protecting inventions in the Cleantech and medical device field as well as working on patent applications relating to non-volatile semiconductor storage devices, data processing and exchange, mobile telecommunications, smart grid related inventions, waste reduction and medical imaging, to name a few.

Thomas obtained his PhD from the Institute of Cancer Research, where he investigated the interaction between radio frequency electromagnetic fields and conducting tissue, with particular emphasis on its application to the design of phased array resonators. In the LMG Life Sciences Guide 2014, Thomas is listed as a ‘Life Sciences Star’ for his work in the medical devices area. He is also commended in the inaugural Who’s Who Legal – Patent Agents, which refers to him as a “definite inclusion on any list”.


Michael Ruggier MSc, CEng, MIMechE, Eur Ing, GameChanger Technologies

Michael has had a tenure in leading positions over the last 24 years with Shell International in The Netherlands, Aberdeen, Brunei, Malaysia, Houston, China, New Zealand & Oman, predominately involved in novel technology development and deployment. He implemented step-change improvements, introduced industry first novel technologies and created significant new commercial applications and opportunities globally. In his role as ‘Shell GameChanger’ for 6.5 years until August 2015, Michael invested millions $US into highly novel technology ideas in the oil & gas as well as novel alternative energy & clean-tech solutions, creating billions $US in value. He has an unmatched record of spotting disruptive game-changing ideas that can make a significant impact and supporting them through to ‘proof the concept’ stage – turning people’s dreams into reality with many “rags-to-riches” stories. He is Founder and CEO of ‘GameChanger Technologies Ltd’ where he continues to do the same but with focus on sustainable technologies to overcome the world’s greatest challenges namely food, housing, energy and transport, each with phenomenal ‘size of the prize’ potential. He achieves with lean / meager resources what would normally only be achievable with government funding, heavy subsidies or large enterprises. His belief is that the only way to make the significant positive contribution to our planet which is so urgently required is by radical and disruptive innovation in all areas including novel business models and partnerships to prove, develop and commercialise such new technologies.
